About;

Danyal Rahati (B.2002) is an Iranian photographer/visual artist. Born and raised in London, Danyal’s identity revolves around the wake of revolution and war, and the homeland that he has never been able to visit.

In 1973 Kurt Vonnegut wrote ‘culture is not a rational invention’, the idea that culture is an ‘irrational invention’ has fascinated Danyal ever since he came across Vonnegut’s work. The camera first presented itself as a tool for him to explore the truth in this idea. But Photography, for him, has always been an extension of a deeper compulsion. An ancestral hoarding instinct, the refusal to let things go.

Having graduated in 2024 with a BFA in creative direction he developed the foundation for his practice that allows the communication between his responsibility as a documentarian and his sensibility as an artist.

At its core, his work is an inquiry into themes of belonging — what it means to be shaped by a culture, a landscape, or a community, and what traces that leaves behind.
